Nice idea. But make whom the captain? After this SA tour it sure doent seem like there are too many candidates.
My vote is for Md. Kaif. the guy has lead teams, mediocre ones at that, to success and has good leadership skills. However, in the present setup, he is not getting too many opportunities, and when he does get an opportunity and performs, he still gets the axe ( vide the West Indies tour and what happened next).
In the present dispensation, Yuvraj is the blue eyed boy who can do no wrong. I am willing to bet that he will be drafted in, no questions asked, when he declares himself fit. This, while Kaif is on trial every single time.
Thats why the Ranji season this year will be fascinating to watch.UP is the reigning champion and will be ld by Kaif. Suresh raina will be back doing the hard yards.. There are 4 middle order slots up for grabs in the next two years, there is the captaincy that needs to be addressed, and then there is the small matter of identifying two more quality spinners who can be on stand by for Anil and Harbhajan.
