England, overwhelming favorites at the start of the series, odds on favorites to win this test after posting 553, have now to set the pace and score enough runs as quickly as possible to force a result in this test.

Panesar has been deadly even in this early summer.
But Harmison was utter rubbish. You think England can force a result?

Odds are against the Poms forcing a result..
5 of Panesar's 6 wickets have been LBWs. On a fifth day wicket with some turn, will umpires be as charitable?
Wouldn't think so. Plus I'll expect the Windians to be wary of his arm ball and also the intentions of Asad Rauf to give LBW if it hit in line.
Hope they fight back to a draw here.

I would rather they push for a win here..
After the first two days, England were sitting pretty.
A day later, England has to set the pace to get any result in this game.
Also, remember that Hoggard is not available for England in the 4th innings. Also, Plunkett and Harmison have been all over the place in the first innings.
Given that, how many runs will Strauss feel comfortable with and how many overs will he think he needs to get 10 West Indian wickets in the last innings?
Sarwan, on the other hand, can slow the game down completely if he thinks he is losing control of the game, which in turn forces England to do more..
Hmmm..
But in either case, the result looks unlikely.

Yup..But the West Indies an take a lot more from a draw than England can.
Plus remember that England have selection issues going into the test at Headingley - Vaughan may be back, ditto Flintoff, Harmison has been all over the park, Hoggard may not be available.
Yes. I know. WI is the underdog and a huge one here. So of course I want them to draw here.
Wish Lara was here, not as skipper but as batsman!
The key to the result of the game will be the post lunch session if no rains. WI, for its horrors, have no quality fast bowler who at this delicate stage would have run down the batting line up. So more than a Lara or a Richards, WI need a Ambrose or a Marshall or even a bowler of half their quality.

Gayle is getting some turn. If Taylor,Collymore and Powell can keep things tight and not let England run away with the game, the onus, and therefore the pressure, is squarely on England.
They'll need to field well first!
8.1 Powell to Strauss, no run, dropped. Strauss tries to leave the ball but doesn''t get his bat out of the way in time and it clips the face and that diverts it down ... Ramdin did well to correct his position but he got a hand to it an inch from the turf.
This kind of thing would deny even Marshal or whoever!

the pace of the game is controlled by the fielding team..
as i said before, if sarwan feels the game is running away from him, he can slow down the game to a point where they don't get thier overs in and force england to either declare at a score less than they feel comfortable with or bat a bit in the morning and lave themselves less time than theu will feel comfortable to bowl the windies out
They are already 248 runs ahead. I stopped watching now. was getting frustrated at their fielding and Taylor's bowling.

I would say another 50 runs and declare.. If the light holds, then the English bowlers will get about 20 odd overs at the Windies today.
They also will have the advantage of getting the second new ball going into the final session tomorrow.
310 is the sort of target the Windies will go for, given that they scored 363 on the 3rd day.Also, England will be handicapped with Hoggard not bowling.
However, 310 gives Strauss the sort of score where if he feels the game is being lost, can slow down the game ans frustrate the Windies.
Also, by bowling 20 overs today, h can have Panesar bowling first thing tomorrow morning with a slightly worn cherry plus the option of him bowling 45 overs in the day

probably coz the overs will not be bowled tonite- early start tomorrow morning will mean that England bat out today and give themselves around 100 overs to bowl out the Windies.
the thing is, because of this acceleration, England can target 350 tonite in the remaining 10 odd overs and then tomorrow the Windies will have to straddle two stools - attack or defend.
If the Windies play defensively, they are toast. If they play aggressively, how do they pace themselves?
And who says other countries don't care about milestones?
