India take the long route to victory. India 329/7 England 320/8
With the English scorecard reading 239/7, India decided that it was time for a siesta. How else can one explain England clawing back from 239 to 320/8 at the end of the game?
Agreed that the Pom lower order was expected to throw their bats around, but this is ridiculous.
Then again, 2 Indian batsmen were Goulded. And we dropped 4 catches early on. And England were on a tear, reaching 75/0 in 10 overs.
And yet we won.
India did the hard yards and while Mascarenhas and Broad added some artificial excitement to the game by tonking the ball around, India held its nerve when it mattered.
The batsmen came to the party, the bowlers were steady, the fielding was all over the place and Ajit Agarkar was on a one man mission to ensure an English win. But when the crunch came, India's nerve held. And England cracked.
All of which points to a good, hard fought series over the remaining 5 matches.

Wasnt Munaf onto the same mission ? He bowled last over as if he was bowling half pitch to the English tail enders. No imagination, juicy half volleys, full tosses and open invitation to come hit me........
His fielding was ridiculous and he along with Agarkar should be shown the door.

Besides Dravid s innings was beauty. He played a great innings after long long time. And so did Tendulkar.
how could Powar and Ganguly drop those catches ??....u cant get easy catches than those ?? Robin Singh....u have some work in your hand .....sir ...
and Umpire Strikes back again......i mean come on.... this is second time in this series for Sachin...inspite of the fact that this might be his last tour in England......and 2 centuries missed..because of wrong decisions....bad bad * sigh * !!
and btw y do they call 3 rd Umpire......just to have tea and snacks and watch the cricket in AC comfort.....hahahhaha....That fellow should have come forward himself and recall sachin back again !!
and ofcourse....Mr Dravid was awesome.....if it wasnt for his 90 in 60 balls.....we couldnt have crossed 300....and Poms...would have beaten us pretty easily !

lol Jane... we do need to work on our fielding and while the batting is coming along, there are still areas of concern.
As regards the umpiring - there is very little that can be done :(

India needs to wake up...wake up really fast, to their catch-dropping, substandard fielding, to closing a match out when on top, and to selecting the right personnel for the team. Otherwise this match could end up being the sole high-point of the ODI series.

those issues have been raised on this and other blogs - the ability to close out a match, to seize key moments, personnel selection and ground fielding - all of which is an academic discussion.
We need to take it as an article of faith that India as a team will not impose itself on a game and that games will be hard fought, attritional ones, quite in the mould of the captain.
Even so, India is the team that has the momentum.. And England is not quite savvy to stop India's momentum :)

Personally I think that Munaf was more inclined to finish that over rather than bowl out the Poms.. If you noticed, his bowling was there and there abouts - I wouldnt read too much into it :)
