England are precariously placed at 326/9, trailing India by 338 runs. And there is some talk of India enforcing the follow on.
IMHO, That is a big NO-NO.
If India gets the last English wicket in the first half hour tomorrow, India should target to bat such that they get about 8 overs before tea ( including time lost for change of innings) to have a go at England.
Hypothetically, that gives India anything between 40-50 overs to look at a score that is out of Englands reach, anything between 470-530.
Two things will be achieved by this
1. The match will be completely, totally put out of England's reach.
2. The wicket will get a further 40-50 overs to bake under the sun.
And it will give India 4 sessions and a bit to get 10 English wickets.
Let us not forget that we have a series to win, and England must not be given any hope at all. Remember also that there is an ODI series to follow with a lot of the English cast remaining the same.

Though its most unlikely that they might chase down a target of 400+, but with pride and home record to save and inspired KP in the ranks, what if England chase down the 500+ target ?
I know thats rare, but cricket is a game of we know all what .....
Givin follow on and bundling them out for 400 score (wonder if England has guts left to score 400 in 2nd inns) and chasing a feeble target wont be a bad idea....
I know i m contradicting and confused, but I fear an English onslaught if they are not given follow on....So i think we shd follow traditional route........
completely agree Tugga...the no follow-on strategy benefits just one team - England. Can't see any post no-follow-on scenario which is to India's advantage. Dravid should have remembered that India has on quite a few occasions in the past failed to win a test overseas for lack of a little more time. Surely, he wouldn't want to see that happen, when it could have been easily avoided.
lol Tugga. But the fact also remains that by batting on, we are unbalancing the Poms who would have expected the follow on.
And by making it a no win situation for them, we are forcing them to play for a draw and therefore allows us to attack.

But we also want to avoid a situation where we have to chase a tricky 100 odd runs in the last essay ( batting fourth). And our track record in such situations is not too flash either :)
don't know if that situation would have been trickier than the one we are in...a team batting with a lead of over 400 runs is batting as if they are up against the wall, defending the match.
well you got it. 110 overs to get 10 wickets. 20 gone.

Dravid's approach was real perplexing wasnt it?
Cricinfo reports that he wanted to make the game absolutely safe.. But I thought we could have achieved that by scoring more runs.
