Hick played for Zimbabwe and England.. Muzumdar did not get a look in for the "A" tours. :(

Sorry about the Friday Homer. Saturday was as bad. Wonder why Mazumdar never got a call-up? Not even once. Career coincided with Sachin and Vinod's and could have been a reason.

plenty of conspiracy theories as to why he did not get the call up.
Career coinciding with SMG did not stop DBV,Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil from making it to the India team :)

Why didn't Muzumdar get a call up?

Simple.... he was competing with Dravid and Ganguly...

A bit like Padmakar Shivalkar having to compete with Bedi..

If only Muzumdar had been an opening batsman!

RD and SG happened in 1996... Muzumdar made his debut in Ranji Trophy in 93.

Dravid was India's biggest shining star in Ranji trophy since 1993. In fact, I remember discussing Dravid with my friends as early as 1993. And when Muzumdar made his debut, Ravi Shastri was still in the fray in addition to Praveen Amre, Vinod Kambli, Ajay Sharma, SG amongst a host of other players. No doubt Muzumdar has been unlucky, but so have so many other players of his generation, Sharath, Sriram, Kale, to name a few. Unfortunately for Muzumdar, his career peak coincided with Mumbai's lowest in terms of Ranji trophy success which dente his chances. Also, if you look at the players who got opportunities in the Indian team (middle order) in the last decade plus, you will find that most of them finished in the top three run scorers in the Indian domestic season at least one year if not more. Dravid, Laxman, Vijay Bharadwaj, Sehwag, Kanitkar, Gambhir, Uthappa are some that come to mind. Problem for Muzumdar is that he never did that strong in a season from start to finish and when he did, Mumbai didn't advance far enough for him to get the chance to finish in the top 3. I am not saying that the selection approach is correct but I see this is as the reason why Muzumdar didn't progress far enough.

Guys, if Devang Gandhi and Vikram Rathore could get the India cap, it blows my mind that a talent like Amol Muzumdar never even came close.. Not even an India "A" cap!

and, I think they finished in the top rungetters list the years they were selected. But yes, opening the batting helped you get a look-in even if u did not finish at the top.
