Homer, how many keepers in the sky sports box?
UJ,
How much money does the ICC make? And what is the daily allowance for the match referee?
The guidelines have been laid down by the ICC. And it is the ICC that is arbitrary in implementing the guidelines it lays down.
One set of gloves is confisticated with major drama on how the India captain escaped a fine. Another set of gloves is permitted not only in the Tests but in the one-dayers that follow.
Cheers,
No doubt, but it wasn't an ICC referee that caught Dhoni, they obviously aren't looking at it as a priority, where as Healy, would notice this stuff, and once it was braodcast they had to move.
UJ,
Plenty of things are broadcast without the match referee doing a thing - Mike Proctor is the most recent example.
And more to the point, why have guidelines if the ICC is incapable of implementing them fairly and across the board?
Cheers,
If Tim Ambrose's gloves are mentioned next broadcast you know the match referee will do something about it.
the only difference i can spot is it hurt oz at that point...
I forgot Sp, if it wasn't for the ICC and Umpires conspiracy Australia wouldn't be world number one.
UJ,
Wanna bet?
Cheers
Let me clarify - wanna bet on "If Tim Ambrose's gloves are mentioned next broadcast you know the match referee will do something about it." ?
The broadcast(ers) will not mention Tim's gloves and the match referee will do squat about it
Cheers,
You're right, it won't happen, as there are no wicket keepers in the commentary box.
But if sky made as big a deal of it as channel 9 did, i would be alot of money the ICC would do something.
Are you really trying to say India gets a raw deal from the ICC?
UJ,
I am saying that the ICC has been negligient in enforcing its own rules fairly and squarely across the board.
The fact that India gets a raw deal from the ICC is out there for all to see. Are you telling me that Australia has no cause for complaint from the ICC?
Cheers,
You said different strokes for different folks, I read that as, they will come down on Indians and not the English.
Did i read that wrong?
The ICC is terrible organisation, no one doubts that, but if this Ambrose problem were made public, they would jump on, because they are reactionary.
There isn't a country out there that doesn't feel slighted by the ICC at least twice a year.
I cant see the pictures..
uj...wanna bet tim goes unnoticed against oz...
SP, did you know Australia faked the moon landing so no one would notice Bill Lawry was out of form, true story.
UJ,
They did come down on the Indians and have yet to do anything about the English :).
Same rules applied differently to different teams - different strokes for different folks, no?
Cheers,
Q,
Click on the blue rectangular boxes on the post - should open up the images
Cheers,
Homer, it hasn't been in the media, it hasn't been run on ad nausea, The media is the reason Dhoni got done. Some ex wicket keeper saying his first ever interesting thing and it was a story, this is the first I'm hearing of Ambrose.
Look who is on the ICL commission and tell me India don't get a pretty damn good run with the ICC, and keep a straight face.
UJ,
Ponting criticized Harbhajan Singh in the media post the IPL - a violation of the ICC Rules. All of the news.com.au papers carroied the story..So did some foriegn publications.Did the ICC take any action?
And the ICL Commision argument is apples and oranges isn't it?
Even so, just for the record
"The committee, which was formalised during the ICC's annual meeting in Dubai last week, includes Giles Clarke, the ECB chairman, Norman Arendse, the Cricket South Africa president, Shashank Manohar, the BCCI's president-elect, Lalit Modi, a vice-president of the BCCI [and the IPL's chairman and commissioner] and David Becker, the ICC's senior counsel - business and commercial."
Giles Clarke? Norman Arendse? pretty damn good run with the ICC?
Cheers,
And UJ, I think it will be fair to say that you and I will both lie on the same side of the argument vis-a-vis players plying their trade inspite of being affiliated with the ICL but the heart of the matter is this - 31 years after the WSC, the records from those games are yet to be recognized by the ICC. All the games have a first class status , if that.
And that is the moot point - the ICL challenges the BCCI as the final arbiter of cricket in India and therefore the BCCI will do everything in its power to squash the ICL - a scenario that will be no different if similar leagues crop up in Australia or England.
And if, as you suggest, the BCCI does get a pretty good run with the ICC, the ICL would have been a non entity ( and we would not have committees to discuss it), Inderjit Singh Bindra would have been ICC Chief Executive and Steve Bucknor would have never stood as umpire at Sydney.
Cheers,
Homer, do you believe that the ICC is biased towards white teams, but essentially that is what you are saying.
So either come out and say it, or keep coming up with these case studies that mean jack shit, because you know i could come out with just as many from an opposite view.
The ICL only happaned because of poor management in the BCCi, and you know that.
Ponting wasn't charged, because as you know, at this stage, cricketers are still fairly free to say what they want at press conferences. ALot worse things have been said by cricketers of all nations and have gone unpunished.
The BCCi doing what the Australian board did in packergate, and I didn't agree with that any more than i agree with the Bcci.
The ICL is getting discussed becuase of legal issues, not because the ICC want to discuss it, they are trying to stop law suits.
And as for your Giles Clarke argument, wasn't he the man who tried to ban ICL players as well, so i wouldnt say he is biased as well, just not as vocal as Modi.
India, Australia and England run world cricket, so get off your high horse and realise that your country is every bit as powermad and corrupt as CA and the ECB, and stop pretending India is the poor unfortunate under dog, because if you wanna see what an underdog in the ICC looks like, i suggest you look at the Windies or New Zealand.
You guys wield as much power as anyone. So stop with the dog and pony show. You guys have enough recent blood on your hands as anyone.
UJ,
If it was as clearcut as a black-white divide, I dont think we would be having this conversation - the rules would have been very clear on where each team stands and what to expect in case of a conflict.
The problem is that there is no clear cut demarcation - everything is ad hoc. And because everything is ad hoc, there is plenty of scope for feeling prejudiced. And victimized.
Javed Akhtar had a bad match when South Africa visited England in 1998 and was not heard of thereafter. Steve Bucknor has had a run of poor matches involving India, but Sydney happens and it is the BCCI arm twisting that is blamed for his non appearance at Perth.
2 tests and 5 ODIs ( at the very least) and you want me to believe that no one, and absolutely no one saw ( or realized) that the gloves did not conform? And this, despite it being Bob Taylor who brought the rule change to Ian Healy's notice in the first place?
Cheers,
And talking of adminstocrats, I am heartened to read "that your country is every bit as powermad and corrupt as CA and the ECB" - finally someone not from the "subcontinental bloc" admits that the CA and the ECB are equally culpable as the BCCI. I would have never gathered that from reading the news stories :)
And also, Stanford stopped payments to a couple of the islands in the Windies because there is no audit on how the money was used or where the money went.
Corruption is an universal malaise
Cheers,
Homer: thanks for focusing attention on this. I was watching the match live and wondering the same thing - I figured they may have even changed the rules after the Dhoni incident.
Unfortunately - as amply demonstrated in the comments section here - any discussion about ICC's ineptitude seems to boil down to an India(or the Subcontinent) vs ROW argument. ROW contends that India controls ICC, Indians contend that they have been unfairly targeted. ICC escapes notice :-)
Homer, When Warne gets banned for a year for taking masking drugs, and two pakistani cricketers can continue to play after taking the real thing, it proves that everyone gets a good run.
You know I am not a big fan of CA or the ECB, never have been.
The difference between Javed Ahktar and Bucknor is simple. At one stage Bucknor was thought of as the best umpire in the world, and was also the most popular in the world. The ICC couldn't just ban him because one country didn't like him. Why he should have been shown the door is in the last 3 or 4 years his umpiring has gone down hill. Why hasn't he, same reason shepherd and dickie bird stayed on, personality power.
How many people in world cricket saw Siddharth Trivedi throw in every match for the Royals. How come his action has not been tested? It's not racial the problems, it systemic.
And if you only saw the glove problems now, is it not possible that you are the first.
Siddarth Trivedi chucking?
Either I live in a parallel univerese or my broadcaster shows me doctored shots (even that is controlled by the BCCI)..
I have nothing to say abt gloves or BCCI or who runs world cricket..
Warne along with Waugh also admitted to be a bookie informer.. And yes in my parallel universe was banned for life like Azhar, Salim Malik and others
Namya, BCCi must have affected the commentary you heard, must have edited out the bit where Ian Bishop said the action was suspicious and very bendy on release. Or maybe Ian Bishop and Cricket Australia are in on it together. I hear those two killed princess Di as well.
And many more cricketers than Warne and Waugh got away with alot worse than what they did.
Great logic,
because many others have got away with worse, I shudn't be punished.. Nice one..
I'll use it in my annual appraisal next time..
Seems poor Sid went and trained in Australia sometime back.. maybe same place where they trained Brett..
About CA and Ian Bishop's involvement in matters grotesque, you should know better..
So Sid is a chucker now, geez that was a quick about face.
I believe all the cricketers in the late 90's should have been punished, Warne and Waugh are no exception, probably harder than they were. You won't get an argument from me on that, but it was the cricket boards of India, Australia and Pakistan that held back on the punishments.
As for matters grotesque, get over yourself. A woman died, and there were conspiracies, grotesque has nothing to to do with the analogy.
If lee is a chucker, so is Sid.. A lot of commentators have mentioned about bowling actions of a lot of bowlers.. If one took everyone seriously, I would be playing test cricket by now..
Quick about face on Warne and Waugh anyone?
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary
One of the meanings of grotesque is fanciful, bizzare. Qualifies? Was about your attempts to link Bish and CA to an unrelated event
cheers
Oh that's how you meant grotesque, silly me, thinking you were using it in the commonly known sense.
I didn't about face on Wanre and Waugh, my point was if you are using them as part of this whole Australia gets away with every plot, then that's nonsense, as players who have done worse have been given no penalties.
On my site I have said this about Warne, drug taking player who had helped bookies.
If you read my first comment it was about Sid Trivedi's chucking.. I had very clearly mentioned that I have no views on gloves, who controls world cricket etc..
I brought Warne because you were comparing his drug punishment to Asif and Shoaib's. Asif and Shoaib should have been given exemplary punishment, no doubt about it. But Warne himself has been no angel to portray as a martyr.
Have a great day
cheers
Never called him a martyr, called him a drug taker who helps bookies.
I will, and you too.
JRod, you can take the Australian out of Australia but ....
bongopondit,
It indeed is a pity.
And the best (or worst) part about the ICC incompetence - the match referee for the first two tests between South Africa and England is Jeff Crowe - the very same man who ordered MS Dhoni to change his gloves because of the extra webbing.
Cheers,
Jeff Crowe - the very same man who ordered MS Dhoni to change his gloves because of the extra webbing.
Ah - but didn't you get the memo ? The match referee is a far too busy and important person to bother with trifles such as implementation of rules etc: 'tis the job of the commentators/media to help him out.
bongopondit,
Silly me!!! But of course, between chatting up the bacon and egg ties and devouring lunch ( the ones at Lords are supposed to be very good), there is very little time to do anything else.
How very inconsiderate of me.
I propose the ICC consider doubling the match fees for the match referees, given all that they have to endure !
Cheers,
different strokes indeed... but then what is new.. that is how it has been.. india will continue to lead the statistics count
Yup Scorpi.. Cant wait to hear the arguments claiming Harbhajan Singh to be the "most booked" by the ICC and how he must be expelled for even the smallest transgression :)
Cheers,
