I don't foresee too many players returning to the mainstream. Majority are over-the-hill or those who stand no chance of ever proceed beyond the Ranji level. Instead, ICL has given a new meaning to their lives. Most importantly a financial security. Maybe 10 percent at the most would like to return, but for others, being rebel is rewarding.

The only reason that that post really hits home is that Bhogle advises one of the franchises, the Mumbai Indians. Cricinfo's article talks about how Subash and Pawar have built a very good relationship and most people believe it is only a stubborn Modi standing in the way of an amicable solution.

As always Bhogle is right on the mark. The decision of banning them for life was wrong. Ban of a year or two should suffice.

But it is hard to envisage BCCI welcoming ICL players.

Som: You think this was just about players liking the idea of being rebels? It was about players not knowing whether they had any security in a selection setup that is pretty damn whimsical and where lots of players have just been lost over the years (the list is so damn long, it hardly bears thinking about). And I don't think they were all over-the-hill or mediocre types. I've seen a decent amount of talent on display in the ICL.
