"A few of their batsmen were a bit lucky with lbw decisions and it didn't go our way, but if we keep bowling the way we have it's only a matter of time.

"If we bowl them out and get a healthy lead we're still in this series."

England used up their two referrals on Saturday, so were denied the chance for a strong appeal for lbw by Monty Panesar against Brendan Nash on 24 to be looked at again.

"It's certainly one we would have referred and we were pretty stunned it wasn't given out," Broad said of umpire Russell Tiffin's not out decision.

In a third hearing, Stuart Broad was cleared of any misconduct after Hurst ruled that comments made by Broad about the match officials were not derogatory.

"On the evidence presented, the actions of the player did not breach the ICC Code of Conduct," Hurst said. "While a comment attributed to Stuart Broad related to match officials and their performance, it was not specific, not perceived as serious in the context of the whole interview quoted, and not proven to be an accurate quote. Also, Stuart was clearly positive about the umpires in other interviews conducted after the game on Sunday."

"Proven not to be an accurate quote."

Surely that's relevant, although I'd like to know which quotes are or aren't accurate.

In any case, this just shows up the crazy situation the ICC has engineered at the moment. If you can stop and make a signal asking the umpire to have a decision reviewed on the pitch, how can there even be a charge for saying you thought it was worth a review at the end of the day?

Jonathan,

This, from Cricinfo

"There's frustration in that we bowled well as a unit and kept our disciplines on what's a really flat wicket," Stuart Broad said. "It was quite a frustrating day, with quite a few chances not going to hand and landing short, and a few poor umpiring decisions, but it's one of those days. Hopefully tomorrow we can come in and hit them hard before lunch and knock them over."

and this too

Broad's temper
Broad got more and more frustrated. He tried to mix things up, but the tipping point for him was when a bouncer to Brendan Nash was called wide by Daryl Harper. Broad, a feisty competitor at the best of times, couldn't bite his tongue and had a few words to say about it. At the end of the over he was less than impressed as he took his cap from Harper, who had a few words about calming down, so much so that Andrew Strauss was called in. The captain took his bowler away, gave him a pat on the back and promptly removed him from the attack.

Looks like dissent to me :).

But the point is taken - the ICC is hell bent on undermining its own institutions... More power to the ICC.

Cheers,

A certain set of players can actually get away with telling the umpire "that's bullshit and you know it". "Broady", that cute kid, was an angel in comparison.

I can bet an Indian player would have suffered - at the senior "Broady's" hands.

Or maybe I am just paranoid.

HOmer, wonder why you dont get comments on such posts beyond the usual Soulberry, me and Samir. Jonathan tries hard to play devil's advocate. Some other poeple who preach peace and fairness dont even talk about these - wonder why.

Anonymous,

The beauty of free speech, free expression and the right of choice - so no, I dont wonder why the comments on such posts are limited to a select group of people.

I am content with the level of debate on the blog.

Basically because it is a debate and not an all out flaming war :)

Thanks for your comments and welcome to the blog.
