Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh batsman Tanmay Srivastata will lead a 15-member Indian under-19 team in the tri-nation one-day series in Sri Lanka from July 15 and thereafter for two three-day matches against a select Sri Lanka side. Bangladesh will be the third side in the tri-nation series.

Player contracts are a mess, there is far too much meaningless cricket, there are no A tours to speak of, the academy is, well, there somewhere and there is no coach. The BCCI is always looking at tomorrow, that perfect mirage, for it glosses over a grisly today.

i liked this line from harsha and it pretty well sums up BCCI...
for the one who has been following Indian cricket closely must be knowing names like harsha, rajaraman, prem, keswani etc and they all dont need their credential to be proved to anybody..
my question though, homer, is...
what prevents BCCI to form a panel of these peoples and may be people like boycott (who are closely associated with Indian cricket) to come-up with suggestions/recommendations and follows them. it will be far more reaching and doesn take much of effort on BCCI part as they are at least good in forming panels/committees etc...
what say???

When have they said that prior to eighty days is not acceptable? Why are we assuming that? And not just assuming it - we're saying that the BCCI implies that boiling oil will fall from hell if we do it twenty days too soon.
Why not forty days? Whats the right number? Why not sixty? Its easy to criticise .. The same Harsha was saying in the column last week that the BCCI was too disorganised ... Now they're too slow.. Both are probably correct to a degree - but the crux is that they're not run by cricketers. They're run by businessmen and so they have to wait for Sunny G and Ravi Shastri and Robin Singh and Venky Prasad and Rahul Dravid to be free ...
If we win in England , chances are we the fans will want them to be consulted as well (and might even want Borde to continue ...!) . If we lose, we'll want whole scale changes and will burn effigies of Rahul and co and Mr Borde (and maybe the coach if he's appointed midway through the tour) ...

Far too much meaningless cricket, we say. Which part ? This tour to Ireland ? But it helps us acclimatise ahead of the big tour,no? ECB won't let us into England any sooner. They're busy playing Twenty20....
The BCCI has lucrative deals which demand a certain amount of cricket. Thats a part of it too. But we need the money for the "perfect mirage tomorrow"...And it makes today less grisly. Whether thats glossing over or laying the foundation ... hmmm .. more debate ...

Given the ham handed manner in which the BCCI operates, do you really think people will give up valuable time from their busy schedules to discuss and come up with solutions only for the BCCI to bin them?
What foundation Sfx? where foundation? Have you been to any of our stadiums? Have you seen the standard of coaching in India? How many academies are there? What about the 1 crore promised to the Ranji Champions 2 years ago that is yet to see the light of day?
Lucrative deals to what end? Make Lalit Modi a chick magnet?
Meaningless cricket is the Ireland series. And please dont attribute any altruistic thinking to the BCCI- they did this coz they signed a deal for 5 overseas "Home" ODIs..

Agree on all of the first part - which is exactly my point - the BCCI is a money making business enterprise - thats a fact - but to blame that on the state of the team is rubbish... How was it any different in the Dalmiya years ? (except that he was no chick magnet :-)) - or the years before that ?
Acclimatise - but we need it in Australia, no? So why is it meaningless when we do it here? By quoting DV and Niranjan Shah you're throwing the argument back at me - that isn't fair , sir !! ...

not even wired logic can apply to BCCI way of functioning. i bet even they cant come with any reasonable explanation of their endeavors. they just do it with sheepish smile on their faces.
and its not that all of the flag bearers of BCCI are dumb. they are however doing perfectly fine with their business (i remeber harsha column in which he mentioned how sriniwasan cement company is doing fine)...
even they will be wary of applying same modes operandi to their respective companies they run...
if you still not sure imagine their factory running without even supervisor...and saying to themselves ya we have time on our hand! i bet they will shoot the person who will suggest them this...
