Exactly Homer. If India did the same thing, the headlines would have screamed "England escape" and "India cannot finish it off". Bloody Cricinfo...

More than CricInfo, it would be us who would berate the team.
Look out for the Indian newspapers tomorrow and check how negative they are about this result.

Actually, come to think of it, England had 96 overs in which to do the job. If someone had said to me, "here, you have 96 overs in which to bowl a team out as they chase 380", I'd have said it was a fair deal.
Also, I suspect India=relieved and England=frustrated is a better mix to take into the next match :)

btw, I am having a little tete a tete with the Poms here and thus far, none of the Poms have clearly identified the reasons for England to feel good going into the Second Test and India feeling terrible..

well the poms have some problems ahead.. they have kp and no one else.. their bowling isn't really going to bother anyone on a gud batting track.. their middle oda is a real problem.. and I wud be worried if I were Vaughan

dna had an article the other day about indias closest survivals.. 3 or 4 matches out of them said India had a cha nce to win the match at one point in time.. 3 of the matches needed 8-10 runs to win with 2 in hand.. now even with OUR tail, can anyone say this was a match we saved? come on for god's sake..
I had a big argument with one of the cricinfo guys on a column which said that India's victory over the WI in 1983 was a one of the major surprises in cricket history.. imagine it was an indian writing this.. and aqlso rememebr we had beaten the WI in the earlier stages

its high time that start blooding in some youngsters in "middle order" otherwise there will suddenly be vacuum with nobody to look upto...

All of it actually straight point. And the reason I disagree with his article is because it is premised on sentiment rather than fact.
When Sachin was recovering from his elbow surgery and Ganguly was in the wilderness and Laxman out of favour, how many middle order batsmen were tried?
And how many persisted with? And for what reasons were they not persisted with?
The reality is this - despite being in the sunsets of their respective careers, Rahul, VVS, Sachin and Saurav bring a lot more to the table than their replacements.
Manoj Tiwary, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma,the names Mr Premachandran suggests, have a total test match experience equaling - 0.
Good luck bringing them together in a test match scenario.
India needs to handle its middle order better. Like getting Yuvraj in for Ganguly as he is complaining of back spasms.A test here, a couple of tests there, growing into understanding the role required of a number 5 - thats how I would like the transition to be handled.
Not some wrecking ball analogy which plays well with the hoi polloi but is fundamentally stupid.

You tell me if this whole wrecking ball argument makes any sense at all.
Especially when the options offered have yet to play a single Test between them.
Agree completely that stats dont tell the entire picture, but if an assertion is made that "India’s famous quartet, Dravid apart, have been living on reputation." then there has to be some data to back that assertion. And yet, Dravid's innings in Rawalpindi and Adelaide are bandied about to somehow justify the above assertion.
Thing is, England did not declare in the 3rd innings despite having a lead of 350 because of India's batting reputation. Thing also is that despite the Fab 4 aging, they English remain wary.
We need to phase out the Fab 4 over a period of time. Dumping the all at once, as suggested by Mr Premachandran, will push our cricket back for a long long time.

i think when someone says that we needed some change i dont know why it is interpreted as the wholesale change of all four...
thats not the case mate!!
all one saying is that as you put it easing out our seniors much like aussies way coz they have experienced the same problem...they could come out of it coz they had systems in place...and we dont enjoy the same luxury (yes common sense is at premium in BCCI days!!!)
if we dont have to face the same problem of mass retirements then we have to ease out them and its no better time than now coz who ever comes in will have comfort of looking to some one for guidance...can learn a lot just by sharing same dressing room with them...
thats the way IMHO....
I agree with every word u say straight point. I had posted on this right after the World Cup.
My issue is with the tone and tenor of Mr Premachandran's article and the hysteria generated because of one supposed no show by the Fab 4.
