Now that the Test series is done and dusted, Ricky Ponting (henceforth referred to as Pricky Ranting) has questioned the validity of India being worthy challengers to Australia's #1 spot.
Yeah well, you need not bother Pricky. Because the team is going to be as is when you come a visiting our shores in October."Even though they are No. 2 ranked team they are probably not now. They are going to lose probably four or five of their best players by the time we next play them," said Ponting, lauding the seamless transition of opener Phil Jaques and Michael Hussey into the Test XI.
"They are going through a similar phase to what we have gone through over the past 12 months. It will be interesting to see how their team backs up from that. They have some rebuilding to go through."
And by the time we come to your shores, you will probably be in retirement, racing greyhounds around Oz.
And in the meantime, you could direct your concerns on
a) beating Pakistan in Pakistan
b) finding a replacement for Gilly
c) Trying your hand at spin because your current lot wont make it in our district levels.

Ah! I knew he was just being nice in that oscar awards styled presentation ceromony... he has a valid point though... the transition has to start.. maybe after SA?
He has already begun working ahead towards India vs Australia in India 2008.
This is how he begins...I'm curious to see who is propped up this time to be the agent provocateur instead of Symonds, and which card he and the media will play.

We have two series - one at home versus the Saffas and then away in Sri Lanka where we can start blooding some of the new crop - in the 6 tests, rotate the Fab 4 for one test each with one of the newer guys and for the remaining two tests, rotate out the the most obvious candidates for retirement with thier replacements..
I wouldnt touch the team for the Oz series - we want the best people for the job to take on the convicts.
Following that, we have a home series against England, which would be the best time to start heavily investing in the new crop.

I wonder where Tim Nielson features in all of this - is he tacitly giving Ricky the go ahead to be boorish or does Ricky control the team to such an extent that Nielson can get a word in sideways?
Things were a lot different when Buchanan was coach - things have started to go pear shaped since Nielson took over during the 7 ODI tour to India in September.
