What is the truth?

THE LURE of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and its riches continues to drive a wedge between players and administrators. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have been under mounting pressure from the IPL to release Brendon McCullum, the New Zealand wicket-keeper, for the semi-finals and final of the tournament. And such is the draw of McCullum that it is believed that NZC have turned down an offer of $1m from IPL commissioner Lalit Modi to release him.

The Sunday Times newspaper in England claimed NZC had turned down the offer, which involved McCullum being excused from the three-day tour match against Northamptonshire to return to India for the IPL's semifinal and final.

Scheduling makes it a legitimate possibility with both the Northampton match and the IPL's semifinals and final to be played from May 30-June 1.

But Vaughan said there had been no offer put to him from IPL boss Lalit Modi. "It's complete news to me," Vaughan said.

There has been plenty of mischeivous reporting..or..England reporters have been quick to jump the gun with some ammo against IPL. Only, the men and boards involved in the deals call the shots and are free to take a decision after the kids have had their play.

There has been another retraction in Yahoo News today about the mischief which appeared in Telegraph over Stanford retracting from WI cricket.

The thing is these fence-sitters are now everybody's football...I don't really feel sorry for their discomfort and loss of credibility.

I'll post the link. I'm at work now...later when I get back home. It's a further Stanford clarification over the purported withdrawl of funds from WI cricket in favour of ECB as reported in the Telegraph of 10th and 11th May.

I believe this was a false report planted... NZ has claimed strongly no such thing happened.

McCullum needed in semifinal and final! I thought Knight Riders needed to play and win their matches for semis but it seems SRK has already done an advance booking for a berth in the final!
