One thing which you would like to see changed immediately in cricket?
I would like to see leg byes abolished from the game. Also, I would like to see overthrows after a direct hit not given. The restriction of bouncers should be stopped too.
As Chairman of the BCCI Technical Committee, how about atleast making the recommendation?

So why not in domestic cricket?

its a tabloid story n tht too a cheap mumbai tabloid.. not to b taken so seriously
erm.. Its an interview, not a story.. subtle difference but a difference all the same.
Cheers,
It is asking for too much.:)
I dont see why Ott.. They are perfectly valid suggestions, especially the bouncer rule.
Cheers,
I meant it is too much to expect from Gavaskar.
Ott,
But now that it is in the public domain, the BCCI could still deliberate on it, couldnt they? I actually like the idea of doing away with leg byes and opening up the number of bouncers per over..
Cheers,
They should try changing that rule for boundary. If a fielder keeps the ball in play even though parts of his body touch the rope it should be OK. Imagine the time it would save by not having to call that Third Eye.
C,
That then raises the question -
If a fielder is standing on the boundary rope and takes a catch, is that legitimate?
Thanks for your comments and welcome to the blog.
Cheers,
What about byes? Should that be abolished too? It is the same principle, isn't it? Or am I missing something?
They certainly should. I am against changing the leg byes as there is nothing deliberate about it.
However, I am for a change in the bouncer rule. Bring back the good old days.:)
Krish,
Not quite the same... Byes are accrued due to wicket keeping or bowling errors.
But consider this - I tonk the dolt across with a perfect bouncer. And he gets runs for it.. Where is the justice in that?
Cheers,
Ott,
Yay for the bouncers, not sure I agree about the leg byes ..
Cheers,
anything SMG says has to be heard with respect. its his stature and the place in Indian cricket that makes him entitled to make valid suggestions.
i agree with his suggestions. BTW he is a Mumbaikar and its his bday.
Anonymous,
"BTW he is a Mumbaikar and its his bday." - and your point is?
Cheers,
I do not think change in the laws come under the purview of the BCCI technical committee.
>>"I tonk the dolt across with a perfect bouncer ..."
So you want legbyes abolished in such specific cases or in all the cases?
RGB,
It may not come under the purview of the Technical committee, but now that it is in the public domain, it is worth pondering over.
And I am against any easy runs for batsmen, who I think are an over rated pampered bunch at the best of times.
Cheers,
