If the IPl is a joke, why bother?.

If it is not, can you substaniate the innuendo about match fixing?.

If not, what price zipping that lip?

Homer, I met Javed Miandad in Dubai during the Pak-Aus series as you would have seen on Well Pitched. During the conversation that involved a couple of other journalists, Miandad was speaking of how he thinks Twenty20 cricket is a joke.

He talked about the luck factor, the fact that individuals that are relatively less talented than others can do well in it, he said it doesn't take much technique to slog, bowlers dont have to work hard for wickets, and so on.

During this whole talk he also mentioned the IPL and the ICL and how he thought that the cricket played in these leagues was not serious cricket.

His thought was borne out of his thinking regarding 20-20 cricket, more than the Indian leagues.

Now, Miandad is not the only one who has said something like that abt 20-20 cricket. Imran Khan has also said that he doesn't take it seriously, as have some other former cricketers.

I saw the article on Rediff and that seems IPL specific, but I can tell u that Miandad thinks that way about 20-20 cricket as a whole, not only abt the IPL.

As for match fixing, Miandad is surely not the only one smelling that in the IPL.

Q,

Javed Miandad is the Director General of the PCB. Whole different matter him raising the match fixing bogey as compared to you or me.

And for being a member of a cricket team that was negatively impacted by the match fixing scandal. Miandad shows very little economy with words.

Miandad was never known to be good with words Homer.

Either way, even as DG, Miandad also talks abt fixing within the Pak team.. even these days, hence u know where he's coming from.

Dont you think that someone in the know to be raising the match fixing issue within the team is a serious issue?

Or is it a case of the lad protesting too much? Or is Miandad trying to be the Pakistani version of Niranjan Shah?

Homer, I believe its a serious issue.. surely it is. The problem though is that Miandad has made these claims before as well - when he was coach during Wasim Akram's captaincy.. and once more later.. but he could never prove them. Or even if he could, it was swept under the carpet. So now noone in Pakistan really takes him seriously cos most of the time he's just ranting on and on and mostly its complaints.

Sad to see a legend of the game make a public fool of himself.
