And with that, Mumbai's 2009 IPL campaign is over. No more waking up at 5:30 AM, no more donning the team colors, no more sitting in the same position so as not to jinx the team even though the legs cramp, no more forays into testing bladder control, no more praying to an assortment of gods, no more finger biting, no more palpitations, no more defending Mumbai, no more cursing Mumbai, no more defending Tendulkar, no more cursing Tendulkar, no more"what could have beens", no more"what ifs", no more to all that.
No more caring. Period.
Now that the emotional investment is no longer there, I can kick back, relax and watch the cricket.
Whoever wins, whoever loses, I could care less.
No tension!
For Mumbai, just one question. The same one as the last season. Where is the bottle in crunch situations? Where is the khadoos cricket that is the hallmark of the city? Why are we so mentally brittle?

To add to Qs Q? How many Indians in the MI XI? Obviously 7 but no Mumbaikar and very few Indians performed.. Guess Shikhar Dhawan's injury did them in. There are obviously a few exceptions but if one looks at the other teams majority of their Indian/ local players have contributed.

Namya: I know 7 Indians, but was asking how many mumbaikers.. the reason i asked was cos Homer asked:

Now it makes sense to ask that to a team with a lot of men from Mumbai. cos I would assume they would have the bottle and would not be mentally brittle..
But a team made up of people not from Mumbai will not be the same despite having the great city's name.
Q said it. Kick the turbanned foul mouth off to kings xi, iqbal abdula should do fine for mumbai.but dhawal, takawale, raje, even abhishek have all not shown bottle. Jayasurya is finally too old for cricket. Duminy is the key. Build around him.

How many Mumbaikars in the Mumbai Ranji side? How many Mumbaikars plying their trade for other Ranji sides?
Point being, it is the Mumbai Indinas. Not the Pune Indians or the Solhapur Indians. And given that, there are certain expectations.
Also, of the Indians in the team, the core was from Mumbai.
And they have to address the issue of why they fail in crunch situations, whether representative of Mumbai or not :)

I think the team needs a shrink to get their minds right. They are the SAffers of the IPL !

Its not just the MI who need a shrink.. There is a legion of fans, this one included, who needs to get over the post IPL trauma :).
No separate blog post for the send off TG.If I had to, I would be documenting every send off there was under pressure situations.
And neither Badri nor Dhawal had much to say to each other about the "fair play" award, did they?

I was just kidding on the send off, it was a perfectly acceptable reaction. I'm all for a bit of bantering and more on the field. Else might as well have robots !
Btw, being an MI fan must be easier compared to being a KKR fan!! Not sure there are many left, but those poor souls need a cure for simply being a fan of KKR - even losing they top up each time. MI doesn't do that to you folks :) :)

Not sure if that is true.
With KKR, midway through the tournament, they were without a shout whereas Mumbai would have been at 3 if they had beaten the Royals and stood a mathematical chance to make it to the semis if they had beaten the Whistle Podus.
When you are resigned to losing, a win comes as a bonus. When you have a hope of winning, the loss weighs heavily upon you.
