Bouncebackability

India's campaign ends with three losses out of three in the Super 8's phase. The campaign will be dissected, faults identified, players blamed, tactics called into question.

What interests me right now is how India bounces back after this set back.

We have history here. Post Sydney, there was Perth. Post the MCG T20, there was the CB series campaign. Post the Asia Cup was the taming of the M&M's. Ditto the Test series in Sri Lanka.

Next up is the tour to the Caribbean. Different format of the game, one where Dhoni's tactic of coming at 3 pays greater dividends. Then the Champions Trophy, followed by the Test series against Sri Lanka.

And plenty of rest in between.

Which translates to time out to evaluate what went wrong and why.

Personally, I think India panicked. Maybe it was the pressure of being the defending Champions. Maybe the media sideshow distracted the team. Maybe the Sehwag injury derailed the team plans. Maybe it was fatigue, coming as they were after playing 6 weeks of IPL. Maybe they were found out tactically.

Whatever the reason, there are 10 months between now and the next World Cup to straighten things out. And with the Champions Trophy in October, there is a ready milestone to evaluate whether things are going to plan or there are certain aspects that need more work.

There is way too much quality in this team to write them off after this set back. And in a perverse way, this set back may be the best thing to happen to this team.

The naysayers can take their pot shots now, because I strongly believe that this team will bounce back - stronger and tougher.

Let the team bounce back. But the real reason is Dinesh Karthik. He is bad omen.He should not be allowed to be selected. So the Indians lost.

Amit,

Karthik was very much a part of the team when we won the World Cup in 2007 :). How did his fortunes change?

Thanks for your comments and welcome to the blog.

Thanks you Homer.
Dinesh Karthik is bad influence.Good for dancing only.
Selection committee full of South Indians, and Super King supporter.
They should be resigned.Dhoni also not nice. Also bad influence since he bye-runner for Harbhajan Singh and soon he outs.
Varinder Sehwag must captain to help team.

Amit,

Okay.. And when we lose under Sehwag then what? Another selection committee and another captain?

Lets have some perspective here.. If we are going to go by omens and not talent, we can have a selection committee consisting of priests, astrologers, numerologists and the like and let them decide on the fate of the team.

Yeah they looked out of sorts throughout. Perhaps the best thing is that they get time off before they head to the Carribean.

And ALL of them should stay away from the media and the public glare during this break.

Leela,

That wont happen anytime soon. Every slight, real or perceived, will be used to skewer the team.

And given our media's propensity to manufacture stories, watch out for the juicy tidbits on cricketers serenading filmstars and vice versa :)

Can't agree more with you Homer. India, as a team thus far haven't worn the tag of FAVOURITES easily.

All said and done, this is a hit and giggle form of the game :-) and a knockout now doesn't change anything about the Indian team.

Nasser Hussain might disagree though - Indians are susceptible to short pitch bowling :-) Would dearly like to flip the question back to him and ask which team actually LIKES short pitch bowling !

What beggars belief is that the next T20 WC is only 10 months away !! What kind of darned scheduling is that.

In the Champions Trophy in Sept I think this Indian team would do fairly well.

It was pretty pathetic that the supposed ' Indian fans' booed MSD in the post match ceremony. Who are worse - the Indian media or these supposed fans ???

The team generally looked sick this tourney.Save for the Rohit innings against Pakistan and Yuvraj's cameo against Bangadesh, the team's vibrancy is missing.

Wassup with Ishant's 145 ers?
Why is Dhoni looking tired?

But guys, playing 20 over games, the guys are not going to turn disabled.Even Dhoni suggested that.

Whatever,it aint nice,and its pathetic.

Among other things,Jeesus christ!
Prick virus and player hatred have spread.

Homer, I see some wicked sarcasm in Amit's post. Kind of taking a dig at a beloved blogger of ours...
(FYI, amit123@hotmail.com is a stereotype for the whining north indian in chennai among what our friendly blogger would call with his magnanimous and unbiased heart as "thambis",

TG,

Definitely the media with their planted "stories", their "rent a mob of effigy burners", their sanctimonious outrage.

The media leads the fans by the ear and then express outrage at their reaction - how low is that?
